Giving learners a literacy boost
help2read’s mission
To motivate the literate adult population to pass on their skills to the next generation, helping children to learn to love books and become confident readers
What we do
help2read trains and places volunteer reading helpers in primary schools where they work with children who struggle to read. The reading helpers offer half an hour of their time to each learner, twice a week, and provide the learners with priceless, long-term, one-to-one care and support. Apart from trained helpers, help2read also provides ongoing support and toolkits filled with beautiful books and games. This service is free of charge to schools.
Reading is made fun by combining reading with playing games. This means that learners have fun whilst at the same time they acquire better reading skills, comprehension and an increased vocabulary. Not only do the children grow in confidence and self-esteem, but the programme also offers our volunteers the opportunity to give back to their communities, build social networks and develop their own capacity and skills.
You can get involved by volunteering as a reading helper for as little as an hour a week or by donating much-needed children’s books.
